Note To Self, is a service to educate clients through learning more about living a new healthy lifestyle. It is led by myself, Timara Tyler, in which I do what I am most passionate about: Teach a new way of living life. Wanting to teach brought me to counseling, which ironically, has allowed me to explore the journey of life with those who seek guidance, and it is the aspect I perhaps love most about being a therapist.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor trained in DBT as well as an EMDR therapist. I began my studies at Stephen F. Austin State University from which I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Additionally, during my undergraduate studies, I minored in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education and music performance. Following my undergraduate work, I earned my Master of Science in Counseling at Southern Methodist University with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy.

Combining my work experience with creativity, I use a multitude of therapeutic techniques including Expressive Arts, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I utilize systematic therapeutic practices with a sense of cultural sensitivity while helping you find new passions and purpose. I specialize in working with addiction, spirituality, women's issues, self-esteem, family, couples, divorce/separation, social skills, career, anxiety, depression, and multicultural issues.

We are all on this journey of life trying to find the best way to become the healthiest version of ourselves. The most difficult part is finding support along the way, support that allows you the space to be your most true, raw, authentic self, creating this space is the most effective way to find the true meaning of you. It’s what I call the journey of being "purposely crafted" and learning new ways of living a more purposeful life. Wanting to teach brought me to counseling, which ironically, has allowed me to explore the journey of life with those who seek guidance, and it is the aspect I perhaps love most about being a clinician. I am passionate about community which has led me to working with individuals, young adults, couples and their families in diverse settings such as private practice, therapeutic schools, outpatient treatment, residential treatment, and criminal justice settings.

"Ms. T, I want you to know that I appreciate so much, all the things you have done for me, and my family. You have been such a big form of support and help for me in more ways than I can even count. I have loved every minute of my process being with you. I don’t know who I would have become in this program if I hadn’t had you as my counselor. You are so good at your job and so good at being you. I adore you so strongly. I wish so badly that I could keep you as my counselor after I move on, but because of you, I know what my next steps are. Staying clean and staying motivated. I believe in myself so much more now, because you have shown me how. Thank you for everything you have given me and taught me. Thank you for being understanding of my difference circumstances, and helping me to grow and move forward. I can, not put this behind me completely, not ever forget, but always learn from this experience and use the things I’ve learned to teach my daughter how to be a healthy person and a strong woman. I am so grateful. I am grateful that this hard time did not have to ruin my life but instead bettered it in so many ways."
